La Garrotxa, the volcanos' region
La Garrotxa is situated in Girona's region, on Catalonia's North. The major part of the territory is in 600 metres of altitude and the highest mountain do not lead 1.600m.
In la Garrotxa there are two types of landscape completely different: there are 40 volcanos in the South which form a soft landscape without slopes, protected by Parc Natural de la Zona Volcànica de la Garrotxa; from Fluiva's valley to the North the landscape change completely. It becomes steep and sheer.
En Bas, Hostoles and Bianya's valley articulate the major part of la Garrotxa, one of the most woods in Catalonia.

TERRITORY AND NATURE:
In this region it can be observed two types of landscapes completely differents.
There are 40 volcanos in the South which forms a soft landscape without slopes, protected by Parc Natural de la Zona Volcànica de la Garrotxa; and from Fluvia's valley to the North the landscape change completely. It becomes steep and sheer. Alta Garrotxa is an area declarated an Interest and Natural Space.
All of this space, with others, like the Fluvia's river, are in Xarxa Natura 2000, in an European intention to protect the singular, strange, well-preserved and natural spaces which connect with other of the same characteristics.
The Garrotxa's climate is Mediterranean. The rainfall are plentiful during the year, and in the winter it's the driest season. The usual rain produces fresh summers, while Pirineo makes winters more fresh.
The vegetation is a reflection of the weather. While in Alta Garrotxa and in the East of the region there is a Mediterranean vegetation, in the other part of the region is covered by SubMediterranean vegetation. In Olot, the most common specie is the oak, although nowadays there is no as frequently found as before around the city.
In la Garrotxa there are some restaurants for all type of tastes.
Some of the restaurant in la Garrotxa explains the Besalú story through its gastronomy, others recover a simple kitchen based on local products (Cuina Remença); others create with new ideas at the most traditional kitchen of the region (Cuina Volcànica); others are rewarded with Michelin Stars.

The future is encouraged: while Parc Natural de la Zona Volcànica de la Garrotxa preserved some variety of old trees.
The artistic manifestations are frequent in la Garrotxa.
Some archaeological show that humans existed miles of years ago. Since then and until now it's been developed from the Romanic to Contemporary crossing with the Renaissance, the Baroque and the Modernism.
There you can find from museums and collections, art, historic paths to cultural spaces where parties are celebrated.
